The Other Side of the Postcard
The Favela Pacification Program was launched in 2008 to reduce crime and drug trafficking in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In April 2015 however, police shot and killed 10-year old Eduardo in Complexo do Alemão, causing uproar in that community. Alemão and other pacified communities began to realise that the program had become the very thing it was designed to destroy.
Taking place in the build to the 2016 Olympic Games, this is the side of Rio that you have never seen before.

After the Sewol
On the morning of April 16, 2014, the South Korean passenger ferry, Sewol, capsized and sank as it was en route from Incheon to Jeju. The majority of the 476 passengers were High School Students. Of those passengers, 304 of them died in the tragedy. The world paid attention to a nation in mourning. Today 9 bodies still remain trapped inside of the sunken Sewol ferry.
It is believed that without a full investigation many questions and issues are unresolved. Directed by Matt Root 'After The Sewol' goes in search for these answers, to help the mourners of lost loved ones finally achieve some justice.

The workshop will run for a week and first two days will be dedicated to learning basic filmmaking techniques; storytelling incl. storyboarding; working with small portable cameras; camerawork, framing & lighting; exercises in editing; choosing the right subject for the film/s. The rest of the workshop will be structured around the participants deciding on the topic of their short film and they will shoot and edit it with our assistance. The result will be then screened to other residents of the camp.
